about

A song about seasons. I wrote this at the end of a long winter in Ithaca, NY.

lyrics

When the June bugs came
we rode our bikes down to the lake.
I could hardly believe that it ever freezes here.

Then the autumn falls and we need that fire just to hold our warmth.
Find the rest of the logs; it's looking dim.

When the winter comes, it's not enough to turn the bottoms up.
Let's burn another one down; I feel a chill.

Let the spring come now.
The flowers, bees, birds, and trees
I need them now.
This afternoon I saw how soon it all will bloom.
I looked up to see a spider in the light of the moon.

The ice began to melt;
the snow gave way to the slush below.
I want to believe that there's still grass underneath.

The tufted titmouse returns to sing the songs he learned down south,
He says he soaked up rays on the dock of the bay.

Darkness my old friend, let's say goodbye, I know I'll see you around.
But for now you should know that you've worn your welcome out.

Let the spring come now.
The flowers, bees, birds, and trees
I need them now.
This afternoon I saw how soon it all will bloom.
I looked up to see a spider in the light of the moon.
