about

This song was also written for the "album in a month" project. I'm particularly fond of the guitar part. I found out that my professor/mentor/friend had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. So I wrote this song for him. Because he was ill, I asked another professor to write me a letter of rec for grad school. In a crazy turn of events, the first professor beat the terrible odds and went into remission, and the other professor then died of lung cancer. I was also very close to the one who died. Super shitty. So it goes. Justin Horn did a great job on the vocals.

lyrics

As the moments pass,
The flames will turn to ash,
The embers into earth,
Abundance into dearth.
The past is swallowed up
Into the bowels of what is now.
The flowers mourn the seeds.

It's process that gives us this notion of time,
Prehensions of pain, this question why.
They cleanse your body with poisonous light,
And we all will watch this miserable fight.
You tell the story of the greater good,
Even at the end, I knew that you would
Say we die every moment, but this time it's just not the same.
The cells in your body are refusing to die,
The prognosis is bleak, but you've still gotta fight.
My mentor and friend will soon be gone,
And then all I will have is this fucking song.
Goddammit.
