Hands so Sleight
04:14
|
|||
Even 'fore ya know it, we'll be singing along with you.
We got stars in our eyes, and we sure like to be read to.
Ya know, I read somewhere they do the same things we do
Like wanna get high.
Mt. St. Helens, she woke up and swallowed the west coast.
She shed her lumber and poured down Sierra's throat.
She won't give it back until something upsets her.
And then where will we go?
We're just passengers.
I got a good vessel; I think I'll just sail west of here.
If the world's flat, I'll write you or buy you a souvenir.
They got the best truck stops just outside the atmosphere.
You get to barter for price.
I heard Atlantis just lost his confidence.
No social insecurity but unusual circumstance.
He wanted to stay up, but his villagers outvoted him.
They were ready to go.
We got our hopes so high.
We got our hands so sleight,
And we got our lips wrapped tight
Around whatever we want.

Sleepless Sounds
02:58
|
|||
Echoes of sleepless sounds bleed through these walls
A saline solution mourning nothing at all.
Bittersweet access to the night's silence
Has worn so thin.
Conor sings in the background
Those atonal harmonies.
It's alright if you don't smile;
Just try to laugh at yourself once in a while.
The apple could fall on your head
And not even wake you up.
Since that night I heard you play
I've heard "Buckets of Rain" more than I care to say.
It's been stuck in my head; I had no choice.
But the recording's not the same as your voice.
I know it's 'cause of you,
I feel too good for the blues.

Unbroken
04:59
|
|||
The wheels have stopped turning as the laboratory mice
Have all stopped to wonder If God plays with dice.
The white coats in Copenhagen, I sure hope that they're right,
But stubborn old Albert won't go without a fight.
Bell's inequalities; say they'll bury alive
Albert's predetermined model
So electrons can thrive.
The sweet taste of silence turns bitter with time
In the vacuum of space of a star that once shined.
The particles gather that had splintered apart
Forming organic compounds of an unbroken heart.
John was so sure we were born with blank slates,
But Immanuel thought of a different fate.
He said there's something we've had
Since the day we were born.
It's the confines of thought
To which life must conform.
I guess all that I know of that which is real
Is that I don't know a lot,
But I know how it feels.
The sweet taste of silence turns bitter with time
In the vacuum of space of a star that once shined.
The particles gather that had splintered apart
Forming organic compounds of an unbroken heart.

Sweet Tooth
03:53
|
|||
We look different than what we are;
We've been trained to let the light shine right through.
We look different in the dark,
A lot like perfume, not quite see through.
Does it make you sad to know it's a chore?
I could sleep right through my alarm clock
Screaming himself hoarse.
So watch your mouth.
Watch the sounds that come out.
They could turn to something like thank you.
So watch your mouth.
We've made charts and graphs,
And we will learn to sink in through your sweet tooth.
We like to catch the sun way down low
With its light behind us,
Stretched out like monsters across this desert floor.
We look bigger than what we weigh
With our distorted shoulders.
Imagine our egos if they were opaque.
Does it make you sad to know it's a joke?
A squirting flower, a tiny snake coiled tight in small tin box.
So watch your mouth.
Watch the sounds that come out.
They could turn to something like thank you.
So watch your mouth.
We've made charts and graphs,
And we will learn to sink in through your sweet tooth.
Oh yeah, we love this place. We love this place. We do; we do.

Real Page Turner
04:09
|
|||
Comin' fast and hard,
It's raining cats and dogs and water moccasins
From that town you hated
Born and raised, baptized, and born and raised again.
So just cry me river or the seven seas and every ocean.
Let's just break it down
Right down to its most basic compounds,
Its salt content, cell count, its huge fucking mushroom cloud.
So I'll just write the story of the walls and trees and buildings in this town.
It's a real page turner thick with irony, mood, and first person,
And all the critics rave you can't put it down, put down.
Try not to freak out.
Oh but these walls are closing in, blood pressure's crumbling.
I've got half a mind to talk about the half I lost.
My brother knows.
Try to freak out.
I'll be the first to say
Under that sun born and raised
With its big red claws
Stuck in the southern states
Your birthplace, your grave.
Oh, now I'm freaking out.
Because because
I see it all so clear;
It's perfectly circular
Am I the same, am I the same
As when I first drew breath?
Was it my first or last?

Creative Advance
02:33
|
|||
As the moments pass,
The flames will turn to ash,
The embers into earth,
Abundance into dearth.
The past is swallowed up
Into the bowels of what is now.
The flowers mourn the seeds.
It's process that gives us this notion of time,
Prehensions of pain, this question why.
They cleanse your body with poisonous light,
And we all will watch this miserable fight.
You tell the story of the greater good,
Even at the end, I knew that you would
Say we die every moment, but this time it's just not the same.
The cells in your body are refusing to die,
The prognosis is bleak, but you've still gotta fight.
My mentor and friend will soon be gone,
And then all I will have is this fucking song.
Goddammit.

Slings and Arrows
03:49
|
|||
I've been meaning to ask if the bars in Elysium mind
That you're still one year underage.
The room fell silent when I heard you violently
Forged into that good night.
The rest of us here gulp our wholesome beer
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
So as a safety precaution
Place small silver coins underneath my tongue.
I will give them to the boatman
And our rendezvous, which is long overdue
Will take place on the shores of the River Styx.
And so they say, maybe someday
We'll recall all of our stories,
But this voice in my head
Comes back each night
And says Elysium is just a fairy tale.
So as a safety precaution
Place small silver coins underneath my tongue.
I will give them to the boatman
And our rendezvous, which is long overdue
Will take place on the shores of the River Styx.

Flickering Flame
03:14
|
|||
On the fifth of December last winter
The snow had to fall to bathe it all
In white light, but the nightfall came
In the early afternoon.
When the cascade was coming down
All around, it drapes the ground, muffles the subtle sounds.
Hands clasp, last gasp on the way down
Into this rabbit hole,
But truth be told, it's getting old, and all the time
I wonder why these thoughts of mine come back at night
To make it right, I'll spend all of my days
Stumbling through a foggy haze
So my doubt, slowly slips away.
The bright white from the sunlight strikes my eyes.
So let's see who still remains.
Pupils grow wider, shadows flickering on the walls of the cave.
I'm not sure it's worth it, but I'm sure that I don't know
And I won't go 'til I find out it's not
When my hands have gone numb, tongue is struck dumb
Hypothermia settling in.
I've given in, living in oblivion, this god damn den of apathy.
It's sad to see its gravity is dragging me.
I'll grab this axe and set free all that is left of me.
The rest of me is festering inside these walls,
I'll burn 'em all down to the ground, all around in the air
It's my voice ringing out. It sounds just like I care.
The bright white from the sunlight strikes my eyes.
So let's see who still remains.
Pupils grow wider, shadows flickering on the walls of the cave.

Less Superstitious
03:35
|
|||
Three days ago, a quarter past
Time to talk about it,
Legs are already walkin' down.
But fuck it all; burn the miles.
I've got a lighter
And nothing to do at home.
And you know I'm not religious.
I'm even less superstitious
About ladders or cracked mirrors,
Black cats in my stride.
I've known em all since I was a child.
I bit my tongue and rolled around.
Are you there; are you there?
I had a dream.
There were cracked doors,
Humming sounds, roads in all directions.
Just a sign pointing back at me.
And you know I'm not uncivil,
But I'm concerned about the frequency of the visits
From ladders and cracked mirrors, black cats in my stride.
I wish they'd talk back every once in a while.

Lil' Lazy Bones
02:47
|
|||
Whacha got there lil' lazy bones?
Got a whole weeks work, do it on my own I guess.
Can I finish it all this year?
If I can't, in the next lifetime I bet I can.
I'll bet you can.
Whacha got there lil' lazy bones?
Heard your boss came down on you in front of all your friends.
Left you in a mess of tears,
Gonna find another job or crawl back and kiss his ass?
Don't ya kiss his ass.
Dress it up lil' lazy bones;
Give it up lil' lazy bones.
Stayin' up til the break of dawn
Drinking out by your daddy's boats.
Never see yourself a winnner,
Never grinnin' when your friends bring the trophies home.
Movin' back with mom and daddy
Just as soon as payin' rent leaves you in the hole.
Whacha got there lil' lazy bones?
Heard your lover had an attitude meaner than snakes piss.
Left you in a mess of tears
Gonna find another girl or crawl back and kiss her ass?
Don't ya kiss her ass.
Whacha got there lil' lazy bones?
Gonna find another bottle, turn it up, and empty it?
Feel better in a mess of sick,
Gonna drink until reach heaven or oblivion?
Dress it up lil' lazy bones;
Give it up lil' lazy bones.
Stayin' up til the break of dawn
Drinking out by your daddy's boats.
Never see yourself a winnner,
Never grinnin' when your friends bring the trophies home.
Movin' back with mom and daddy
Just as soon as payin' rent leaves you in the hole.

The Road Up and Down
03:48
|
|||
We've been up and down these roads,
Seen where all the good ones go,
And how few of those there are.
We've been to every goddamn place,
Seen each and every wretched face in this town.
Again and again and again and again.
And I won't stick around.
I can't figure it out.
It's happened to me one too many times.
Still can't find the reason why.
I'm sorry that I'm so fucking unsatisfied.
You'll tell all your nosy friends
Before our time together ends
'Cause they've all gotta know.
And I won't stay tonight.
I just don't feel right.
Know everything, no nothing
No everything, Know nothing too.

Dígame sus Respuestas
05:19
|
|||
Por favor, perdoneme.
No intento reír
A los datos semanales
Que no soporto oír.
Su alquiler, ingresos, lagrimas, sus risas
Su guerra, impuestos, temas del día
Tiene que perdonarme
Me hace reír.
Déme resolución y felicidad
Por estas pastillas, humo, bebidas
Déme felicidad
Camine por su barrio
Conduzca su coche
Come esa mierda
Encuentra dios
Aprende arte y amor
